Many reviews on the internet tell you that the gauge on the Presto pressure canner can become inaccurate over time. This will gently rock at 5, 10, or 15 lbs pressure allowing you to see if your gauge is reading correctly, or needs calibration. Better safe than sick from improperly canned food. Also, this will allow the canner to be used as a regular pressure cooker. -- a little extra insurance
